The Valentine’s Day Gift Guide # 1

The Valentine’s Day Gift Guide # 1

For the first Valentine’s Day Guide, we’re going to be cheesy as pie and give you gift sets with the word LOVE in them. ‘Cause that’s what makes the world go ’round y’all.

NARS Love Set ($73 value priced at $49)

Includes Orgasm blush, azalea-pink Pillow Talk Lip Gloss, and Sex Machine Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.

Philosophy Candy Hearts Lip Duo ($20) in Pink Bubbly and Angel Food Cake

Harajuku Lovers LOVE Fragrance ($25 or $45)

Sweet, caring, and free-spirited, Love is always off in her own little world. Stepping out in a cute, striped mini-dress and fashionable red kicks, Love wears her heart on her sleeve, or rather, in her hair! Her scent is reminiscent of a floral bouquet, with notes of pink pomelo, rose, and creamy vanilla orchid.

Juicy Loves Sephora Lip Gloss Heart Pendant ($78) & Pave Lip Gloss Heart Ring

I want, I want, I want! To the power of “infinite” (Einstein, you listening?)

An exclusive Juicy Couture partnership with Sephora. This gold pendant has the iconic Juicy insignia (those charming Scottie dogs) and a pendant that reveals a pot of lip gloss inside.

Ed Hardy Love & Luck Man ($15-$55)

This is a fragrance for your man. Tokyo inspired, graffiti-galore fragrance with notes of mandarin, bergamot and juicy orange.

Korres Love Your Lips Collection ($29)

Benefit: Peace, Love & Glossiness Lip Gloss Set ($26)

Double-ended lip gloss wands that give you a six pack. Well, sort of. The combinations are 24k & Talk to My Agent ( gold shimmer/ shimmering mauve); My People, Your People & Kiss you (crystal pink sheer/ sheer light violet); Magic & Who Does Your Work? (sheer pink beige/ sheer wine)

The Body Shop Spring 2009: Roseflower Make-up Collection

The Body Shop Spring 2009: Roseflower Make-up Collection

It’s almost February, and everything should darn well be coming up roses. The new Spring 2009 Roseflower Make-up collection from The Body Shop sounds cliche (and yes, it is), but we can think of the entire army of prom-bound teens and sweethearts in love stocking up.

Roseflower Eyes (duh, eyeshadow!)

These two neat eyeshadows have an embossed rose design. There’s a trace of shimmer, plus it’s highly emollient with marula nut oil and shea butter.

Lippies (in Soft Pink, True Pink, Deep Pink)

Radiance Stick (aka known as BLUSH)

This one even has rose fragrance infusion. Mensa award?

Roseflower Blush with delicate Rose Fragrance – wow!

Doesn’t take a shrinking violet to nab these rose-scented winners.

We have an exclusive sneak peek at Guerlain’s new lipstick introduction, called “Rouge G de Guerlain.” I’m sorry this picture is the best I could get (stay tuned for swatches). Made with REAL Ruby particles and mango butter, this lipstick will retail for $45 at retailers worldwide, starting in March.

The compact was designed by a famous jeweler, Lorenz Baumer, and has a button that you push to automatically pop out the lipstick. There’s also a mirror in the compact.

This is a jewel to carry with you everywhere, and a beauty tool to keep for life.

FREE Molton Brown New Body Therapies Treatments

This is one of my most favorite brands, so I’m as excited as pig in mud as I’m typing this. Visit any Molton Brown emporium on Friday, February 6th (1-6pm) and Saturday, February 7th (11-4pm) to experience the NEW Body Therapies collection, which has been created to counteract the daily grind and the effects on skin, body and mind.Customers can enjoy cookies and mint tea while deciding which of the three treatments (provided by Molton Brown therapists) best suits them:

TREATMENT CHOICE #1: Head and Temple Treatment:
A therapist will provide soothing temple massages – aromatherapy is the best way to decrease stress, improve sleep and overall wellbeing.

TREATMENT CHOICE #2: Nourishing Hand and Nail Treatment:
During the winter our hands and nails can become very dry. This mini-treatment nourishes hands and nails to restore them to their original state.

TREATMENT CHOICE #3: Purifying Hand Treatment:
Winter can cause hands to become dry and flaky. This mini-treatment is to exfoliate the dead skin cells and purify the skin to a wonderful glow.

Customers will be offered one special treatment in-store that fits their needs (sleep, purify or nurture) after a short consultation and will be instructed on how they can recreate this experience at home. They will then receive a recipe card of how to use the ranges on their own for an at-home spa feel and will choose their specific at-home treatment.

Pravana Pure Light: the Promised Land for your Locks

Pravana Pure Light: the Promised Land for your Locks

Talk about an enlightening experience. We pay an arm and leg to our stylist, secretly suspecting we’re putting her kids through college, only to have our color bite the dust all too soon. So when we discovered Pravana Naturceuticals Sulfate-Free Pure Light Brightening Shampoo and Pure Lightening Conditioner (try saying that ten times fast), we thought we’d reached the Promised Land.According to Pravana, its products are “a unique hybrid of European artistry, ancient Mayan natural botanicals and innovative American technology.” In plain English, Pravana uses a duel ultra-violet dye system that works like a virtual optical brightener to neutralize sickly yellow undertones in blonde or silver hair. The result? Blonde hair dazzles, silver hair shimmers, and highlights pop.

The formulations have all the bells and whistles. Sunscreens, amino acids, and wheat protein strengthen the hair while protecting its color; natural botanicals provide vital moisture, shine and elasticity.

Also good to know: Pravana Naturceuticals products as kind to the earth as they are to your hair. They aren’t tested on animals, contain no animal by-products or phthalates, and are EPA and CARB compliant.

So more excuses for lackluster locks. The Brightening Shampoo, retailing at $18.40/10.1 oz, and Brightening Conditioner, at $20/10.1 oz., are available at select spas and salons. Go to pravana.com to find one near you.

Ojon Launches Batana Collection: Body Cream and Shower Gel

Ojon Launches Batana Collection: Body Cream and Shower Gel

Here’s a name synonymous with “excellence” in my books: Ojon.

This morning, in the freezing, Tundra-like weather, I attended a breakfast presentation at the United Nations where Ojon unveiled their newest launch — the Batana Collection. If you’re familiar with Ojon, you’ll know that the Tawira tribe of Central America is well-known for their luxurious, thick hair.

They tribe used a precious oil all over their body: for their face, hair, skin. The “oil” in the native Tawira language is known as “Batana.”

The Batana Body Cream retails for $40. PLEASE buy it. Like, forgo your weekly brunch and go buy it. I love this cream because of its super hydration and it leaves zero residue and goopiness. The cream contains a conglomerate of white cacao, shea and murmuru butters that promise to zealously moisturize.

It also contains Buruti oil that is extracted from the nut of the Buruti palm, and is rich in beta-carotene, omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, and plenty of antioxidants to make a blueberry blush.

It has been clinically proven to replenish skin’s hydration by 51%!!

The other product in the Batana Collection is the the Shower Gel, which is creamy yet sulfate free. It retails for $28.

I’m so happy that I have a shower gel and body lotion from the Ojon collection. I’m like an Ojon groupie. If they started a band, I would join.

Not Your Average Supermodels: the new Louis Vuitton Ads

Not Your Average Supermodels: the new Louis Vuitton Ads

Consider the legion of movie starlets that have posed for luxury goods manufacturer Louis Vuitton’s advertisements; they’re at the top of the fame game and earn millions per movie. They attend awards shows as often as most people go to the grocery store. For the Spring/Summer 2007 campaign, sultry Scarlett Johansson dominated the glossy magazine pages as an angelic creature gazing longingly at an intricate, white LV handbag. So who would have expected the newly-elected LV models would be a cornucopia of infamous men, ranging from a controversial political figure to a notoriously intoxicated guitarist?

We coughed on our latte when we saw Rolling Stone’s Keith Richards posed with a guitar, cup of coffee, trademark cigarette and a Louis Vuitton suitcase. We reveled in the beauty of an advertisement featuring infamous movie director Francis Ford Coppola with daughter Sofia and an LV tote amidst a marshy sunset. But as we flipped through our New York Times recently and saw Mikhail Gorbechev cruising through Berlin in a chauffeured car with a Louis Vuitton duffle by his side, we were quite taken aback. While the campaign may not be typical of celebrity endorsements, in all actuality the photographs, taken by famed photographer Annie Liebowitz, are beautiful and haunting. The phrase “a picture says a thousand words” never was more applicable. And in this case, those words are “Buy Louis Vuitton.

SAG Awards 2009 Red Carpet Arrivals and Beauty

SAG Awards 2009 Red Carpet Arrivals and Beauty

A range of stunners arrived on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, January 25th.  Topping the list is consistent Kate Winslet in an indigo figure hugger by Narciso Rodriguez. She won the SAG for Best Supporting Actress for The Reader.

Kate Winslet’s glamorous low bun and side swept bang was created exclusively by Frederic Fekkai stylist Renato Campora using Fekkai products.

To get the look, use FEKKAI MORE ALL DAY DENSITY MOUSSE ($25) to wet hair for added volume. On the bottom portion only apply FEKKAI COIFF MAGNIFIQUE ($23) to ends for a smooth blowout and to protect hair from the heat of styling tools. Using the FEKKAI EXTRA LARGE ROUND BRUSH ($65) blow dry hair and part on the right side. Once completely dry, use a one-inch curling iron throughout hair to create tousled movement with dimension. Apply FEKKAI TECHNICIAN GLAZE ($20) to ends working it through with fingers for texture that is not too heavy. Tease the top of the head ever so slightly to create a touch of height. Next pull hair back into a low ponytail. Create a loose braid and twist it around to form a bun. Secure with pins. Making a braid helps to keep the bun from appearing too severe and gives it the soft modern touch.

Anne Hathaway was my number 2 choice in a figure-hugging white Azzaro column gown with jewelled neckline and waist:

Amy Adams looked like a garnet-sheathed goddess:

Christina Applegate wore a teal colored Emmanuel Ungaro gown that brought out the color of her eyes:

Emily Blunt is one of my “top 3″ dressed women of the evening, with her stunning backless silver sequin Pamela Roland dress:

Eva Longoria can never do wrong with Robert Verdi as stylist. Here she floats in a Jenny Packham salmon-colored gown.

And the worst dressed of the evening was America Ferrara, who looked like a bag lady in this Vera Wang camel-colored dress. WHAT was she thinking?

And the “golden couple” didn’t look too shabby, but Angelina’s dress was too flowy and shapeless as a bedsheet:
