Hair Products You (and your Valentine) will Love

by in Beauty Archives

There are a few things in this world that make my heart strings go zing. These include golden retriever puppies, tea at the Plaza, losing ten pounds, and having a head full of gorgeous, pin straight, lustrous hair.

It may have been my Indian upbringing, but having beautiful black hair that’s as thick as wad full of cash is something that makes me feel like the day will have five gold stars. Which is why I’m dishing out my tips on how you can achieve a perfect ‘do on Valentine’s Day, even if you’re going stag.

We’re crazy about John Masters Organics Shine On leave-in treatment. The gel is completely natural and made with organic kelp instead of silicone to smoothen the hair shaft. Apply it liberally to wet or dry hair and blow dry…your hair will be tamed and frizz-free, but shine as happily as a starlet on the set of a blockbuster movie.

It also contains carrot seed oil and calendula extract. $30 (and free ground shipping) at John Masters Organics.

I also love and use Paul Mitchell’s Pro Tools to style and sculpt my hair into a gorgeous state of strands. Recently, I got my hair blow dried and straightened at CARU in Hoboken. Now, I have naturally straight hair (which was a grave disappointment to my mom, who read somewhere that curly-haired women are more likely to get jobs than straight haired women. Gee, thanks!). But despite that, the stylist who used the Paul Mitchell Express Ion Style 1-inch ceramic straightening iron (the latest Paul Mitchell Pro Tool on the market) managed to get make my hair pin straight yet thick.

This straightening iron is one the finest I’ve ever used. It leaves the hair conditioned and frizz-free without damaging the cuticle. No crazy split ends because it heats the hair strands evenly. Plus it’s super easy to use! The solid ceramic heaters heat the strands evenly without any fuss or feathers (burnt feathers, that is). If there’s one ceramic tool you need to have, this is it.

This is available at fine salons, and while the product price tag is steep (over $120), this is an investment you owe to your hair (you need to stay away from the stock market anyway).
