The Orange Ribbon Pin: Buy it, Wear it for National Sunscreen Protection Day!

by in Beauty Archives

Skin cancer is on the rise, and I bet you knew that. But did you know that this type of cancer actually is the #1 cancer in America, beating out  breast, prostate and lung cancer?

This Thursday, May 27th, is National Sunscreen Protection Day, girls! So make sure you give your skin some good veil.

According to the the Skin Cancer Foundation, around 2 million cases of cancer are diagnosed every year, worldwide. La Roche-Posay, a skincare line that we love because of its gentle formulations, has created a campaign called SaveOurSkin, which allows you to purchase an Orange Ribbon Pin to show your support for skin cancer victims. For only $5, you will benefit both the SaveOurSkin foundation and the Women’s Dermatologic Society.

What’s more, you’ll get a gift certificate redeemable toward the purchase of any Anthelios product.

Now, are you going to wear sunscreen on Thursday? If so, you must stay tuned for our next post, about which sunscreens are safe for you and which are not.To find out more, visit www.SOSSaveOurSkin.com.

  1. From Sarade:

OK, I am so confused about sunscreen! As a pale-skinned redhead, I have worn sunscreen daily as far back as I can remember. But I have read several studies saying that sunscreen actually causes skin cancer, because of all of the harsh chemicals in it. This is not too far-fetched, as I have seen the way my sunscreen rubs onto the arm rest of my car and disintigrates it, and I have also noticed that mainstream sunscreen can be used to remove nail polish in a fix. Scary! So in the past few years, not willing to expose my skin to the sun, but also aware that anything you put on your skin goes straight into your bloodstream, I have been buying all-natural sunscreens and sunblocks that are paraben-free and have no other harmful and toxic chemicals. It’s a little pricier, but I feel better about putting that on my body, not to mention how much better natural ingredients are for our water supply. My dad had skin cancer, so it helped me to realize what an important issue skin protection is.
