Cynthia Rowley Beauty Spring 2010
The look of Cynthia Rowley for Spring 2010 was the commingling of “scary and pretty.” The dresses combined a fierce, edgy with elegant elements and the beauty did pretty much the same.
The beauty was done by MAC Cosmetics and Redken for hair. Makky, the lead makeup artist, says, “The inspiration for Rowley is a girl running away from home — a wild child.” There are watercolor eyes and almost nude lips (which wild child wants to draw attention to her pout?). He used Carbon Powder eyeshadow and a liner with no winged tips (no cat eye) and used Brush # 224 to achieve the eyes.
“I wanted to make the look fierce so I used a blend of Magenta Sky Blue and Violet MAC Cremestick…it came out to a mauvy wash, and I blended them both,” says Makky.
There is no mascara to the look. As for the lips, all he did was to apply the MAC Conditioning Lip Balm. As for the blush, Makky used “Soft & Gentle” Mineral Powder and a product for contouring. The skin was dusted with Mineralize Skinfinish.
As for the hair, Bokhee for Redken took the idea of a dolled up ponytail to the next level by doing a “Rocker Billy meets Pleasantville housewife” roller in front. The way the hair look was achieved was by taking a front and side parting, and rolling up the hair in front with a cushion. Yes, a cushion! (these are small soft fabric that stays in the rolled up hair even when finished). She secured the roll with bobby pins.
“I wanted something both structural yet messy,” says Bokhee. “The hair is wet in front using Fabricate by Redken and then using Workforce to bring out the shine. I used Workforce Finishing Spray to complete the look.”
