Casting pearls before swine may be a past time that Guerlain enjoys doing on a frequent basis, but I must confess that the Summer 2010 collection of the Guerlain Meteorites Perles is luxurious, eye-catching and delicate at the same time.

The Guerlain Meterorites Perles Makeup collection houses the colorful makeup pearls in a rose-motif silver box. They come in three shades:

1. Rose Tint

2. Beige Tint

3. Gold Tint

The Eyeshadow Palette is all beiges, roses and brown tints. Called Ombres Perles, it features a white rose embossed pattern on two of the four eyeshadow pans.

The collection will also showcase two new wicked Kiss Kiss Baby lipsticks, in Cherry and Summer shades:

Oh these browns, these dark sienna colors are driving me crazy because they remind me of all the foods and places I adore: cafe lattes, the color of the sand in Goa, India, the shade of clay pots drying in the sun (hence the name Terracotta). The Guerlain Summer 2010 Terracotta Collection has:

1. Six gorgeous Guerlain Terracotta lip glosses with SPF 15. Feast your eyes on them, darlings, because I’d like to drink them up in pitchers because the colors range from sand to a raspberry brown. And the Oriental packaging, with the pentagonal handle, is a beaut.

2. The luminous bronzed moisturizer (Terracotta Teint D’Ailleurs) contains SPF 10, and let me tell you, skin going naked without SPF in the summer is like you going to the office with no clothes on. No bueno.

It’s all about the lips, face and cheeks in Guerlain’s Spring 2010 offering.

The limited edition blush palette features an Asian favorite: cherry blossom color! The eye shadow palette also features a more pastel version of the same pattern. These two palettes remind us of several traditional Japanese artwork featuring women with parasols under cherry blossoms:

There are two lines of Guerlain lipsticks offered this season:

KissKiss Strass: taking the cue notes from the word “strass” which means rhinestones, the lipstick replaces the current MaxiShine formula and gives your lips that iridescent glow. 10 shades, $31 each.

Rouge G Brillant is a lighter version of the popular Rouge G and makes shine go a long way to Tipperary. 10 shades, $45 each.

The Meteorites for the face is a relaunch of the iconic 1987 illuminating face powders that look like sheer mosaics. The new packaging and improved formula will retail for $170.

You, too, can now have your own portable rose garden, thanks to Guerlain’s newest fragrance, Idylle. Swiss perfumer Thierry Wasser makes his debut for Guerlain with a floral chypre. The top notes consist of an ensemble of lilies of the valley, peonies, freesia, lilacs, and rose; no one flower stands out. For the middle, Wasser used Bulgarian roses blended with raspberry and litchi. Since some find a traditional chypre scent a little bold, the perfumer added base notes of patchouli and white musk to brighten the over all feel of the fragrance.

Devotees of Guerlain perfumes will notice that the Guerlinade, which used to appear in every Guerlain offering, has gone missing from Idylle’s repretoire. Thierry Wasser conciously stepped away from the proprietary blend of the six scents of jasmine, bergamot, tonka bean, vanilla, iris, and rose. Instead, he chose to honor a small part of Guerlain’s scent history by only including rose.

The pure florals here just don’t quit – I want to spray this perfume on before bedtime, so when upstart reporters ask me what I sleep in, I can say, “Guerlain Idylle – and Old Navy pajamas.” A beautiful scent deserves an equally beautiful package, and thanks to French designer Ora-Ito, Idylle comes in a sleek yet curvaceous bottle that makes any vanity ultra chic. The grand concept behind the scent and bottle come from the notion of the Ideal Love – be it lasting or ephemeral. I don’t know about that, but it lends a little dignity to my otherwise slapdash lifestyle. And if Idylle can do that, there’s no telling what else it’s capable of.
