Aren’t you curious as to what shoe style you should pair with that cobalt blue eyeshadow and that killer outfit? We caught up with Bluefly Stylist Tanesha Smith who continually cranks out editorial looks for Women’s and Menswear shoots – a position she describes as “A total dream job – very chill and fun; we’re always trying something new. Tanesha has had internships at magazines including Nylon and V. Rock on, Tanesha!

What trends are particularly popular right now, for winter?
Leather remains huge! It’s carry over from the “aggressive” shoe movement from earlier this year with tough details like buckles, straps, and hardware details like studs dominating. And you’ve got to have at least one pair of kick-ass ankle booties! As we move deep into winter, animalistic touches will emerge: Shearling details, fur (faux and real) trims; especially on lace-up boots. I see duck boots having a moment as well.
What do you think people are giving as gifts?
Personally, I’d be thrilled if someone wanted to give me shoes! Particularly if they were really yummy beat up brown suede flat lace-up boots.
For the Spring 2010 season, what are some must haves?
Anything with peek-a-boo skin flashes via mesh and cut-outs; platforms will continue their reign, although I see wedges making a strong come back. There is also a new sexiness that isn’t so obvious coming through, a sporty athletic movement that is luxuriously casual-wedged sneakers for instance. I would also go for something with natural elements ie: rope, canvas, even burlap for spring.
Apart from Bluefly, where else can a girl get affordably priced stylish shoes?
Shop your mom’s closet (old lady chic anyone?), have a swap with your girlfriends, go vintage shopping, hit the fleas…
Why should one go to Bluefly for shoes?
We honestly have the best mix of hi-lo I’ve seen around and trust me-I shop. We’ve got your high-fashion mega brands like Prada and Louboutin, and the indie designer imprints celebs usually get to know about first like Candela and Velvet Angels.
Thank you Tanesha! (as we hear the ceiling of our credit cards being reached…)
